Chiara Lampugnani attended the Faculty of Architecture at the Polytechnic University
of Milan and Arnaldo Pomodoro’s School specialized in the artistic treatment of
metals.
Her working experience ranges from art to design.
Her objects are based on the peculiarities of materials, trying to combine handwork
with major material performances.
Starting from this idea, she created a series of atmosphere lamps where optic fibres
are illuminated by LED and are like an embroidering thread which covers several
surfaces so that we have the impression we could touch light.
Light is like an embroidery which gives an abstract and strange thickness to objects;
its brightness is similar to that of the moon or of the stars.
They are silent objects that live in a magic world and seem to come out from a fairytale
book.
Candy Floss captures the punctiform light of stars, whereas Cassiopea reminds us of
the sky constellation.
Snow ball is almost like a magic object resembling to a sea creature.
All the lamps are hand made with a metallic or ceramic basis.
The Atmosphere Collection combines embroidery with optical fibre.
Light is a poetic means with which we may work, it is a magic element than can be
incorporated in objects.
Optical fibres allow us to play with shapes and functions and to combine traditional
manufacture with modern material.
The inspirations starts from the emotion of creating something new, beautiful, useful
and magic.
The Crystal series starts from the transparency concept and from the hand working
of borosilicated crystal which has been turned on a lathe and blown with the aim of
pushing material till its highest flexibility.
Each object is different as it is hand made. It is inspired to the shapes of nature and
has the colours of iridescence or personalised colours even silver.
Thought is an elegant table lamp that seems to come out from the surface where it is
placed and has a silvery or coloured lampshade.
The drop-shaped small tables appears to be suspended on tiptoes like a ballet
dancer and they offer many combination possibilities.
The objects belonging to the Crystal Series are not symmetric and they change
continuously according to which point of view you look at them.
Chiara Lampugnani shapes objects which astonish and give movement to our daily
life space .
